The Sport Newcastle Awards celebrate the very best of sporting success across Tyneside recognising outstanding achievements and the rising stars of the future.
As the city’s oldest and most inclusive sports charity, Sport Newcastle is dedicated to supporting grassroots sport and helping young people, clubs, and organisations achieve their sporting dreams.
To date, the charity has awarded over £3 million in grants, supporting thousands of athletes, coaches, volunteers, teams, and clubs — with grants starting from as little as £250 to help kick-start the vital early stages of sporting careers and development.
This year we sponsored the 'Team of the Year Award' which was awarded to Newcastle United FC for landing the first domestic silverware at the club since 1955, winning the Carabao Cup and sealing Champions League Football.
Ian McElroy, Chief Executive Tier One Capital was on hand to present the award to Shola Ameobi, NUFC Loan Coordinator
Ian said, “This award is thoroughly deserved and everyone connected to NUFC, who should all be rightly proud of what they have achieved together as a team.
"They certainly did it the hard way beating four Premier League teams on the way to the final and getting it right on the night against Liverpool at Wembley.
"It was great to see over 300,000 fans take to the streets of our City to celebrate the first major trophy on Tyneside since 1955 and we are delighted to continue our support for the Sport Newcastle Awards night."
